What follows is a general flow of events. Expect the unexpected and prepare to be flexible.
Day 1: Arrival at Zvartnots Intl. airport.
Transfer to the hotel. Rest. Overnight at the hotel in Yerevan. Armenia is a mountainous nation in West Asia, a former Soviet Republic, and was the first Christian country to adopt Christianity in the fourth century. It’s worth mentioning that Grigori the Illuminator
who was the founder and first official head of the Armenian Apostolic Church is the 2nd important saint of Italian city of Naples.
The world’s oldest winery was found in Armenia in Areni village. It’s 6.100 years old.
The current capital of Armenia, Yerevan was founded in 782 B.C. making it one of the oldest capitals in the world. Pulpulaks – drinking fountains – help to survive the heat. In Armenia, clean water comes even from the tap, so people don’t use water filters at home.
Armenian is the only official language. The main foreign languages that Armenians know are Russian and English. The national currency is Armenian dram. The best season for traveling to Armenia is from early April to late October. he average temperature ranges from -3 °C (26.5 °F) in December to 27 °C (80 °F) in July, with highs around 34.5 °C (94 °F), but also with peaks of about 40 °C (104 °F).
Day 2: Yerevan city tour – Zvartnots – Voskevaz
Breakfast at the hotel. The main purpose of today’s tour is to get acquainted with the vibrant capital of the country. With its historical and cultural monuments and interesting sights, corners and parts of the city. We will visit Cascade Complex – an outdoor contemporary art garden and the largest contemporary art museum of Yerevan with a nice view of the city from the top. Then, will continue to Republic Square which is the heart and the most beautiful square of Yerevan. Afterwards, visit State Opera and Ballet Theater and Northern Avenue – the latest pedestrian street.
Visit Vernissage – wonderful open-air market. It is the best place to buy exclusive masterpieces, souvenirs and works of art made by Armenian local craftsmen and artists, and observe locals Visit Zvartnots Cathedral (UNESCO) constructed in the 7th century. The ruins and Zvartnots is so special because it was made with a rare construction technique that was not common during the 7th-century and the methods used were considered extremely advanced. Day 3: Yerevan – Sevanavank – Garni – Symphony of Stones – Gegard
Transfer to Sevan to visit the monastery of Sevanavank which is a monastic complex founded in the 9th century, located on a peninsula at the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan. From here the visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Sevan – called “The Jewel of Armenia” and is the largest lake in the Caucasus and one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in the world.
Drive to visit Garni which is remarkable with its historical and architectural monuments, the most famous is the pagan temple of Garni dedicated to the God of Sun. It is the only pagan temple in the Caucasus region. After adopting Christianity in 301, the pagan temple lost its significance and the fortress of Garni became the summer residence of the kings. Nowadays the ruins of the royal palace and the bathroom with a stunning mosaic work can be found near the temple.
Walk to the famous Symphony Canyon was named for its rock formations, a series of perfectly cut diamond-shaped granite, basalt, and slag. Enjoy the breathtaking view of Symphony of Stones and the surroundings. Sevan in Spring Symphony of Stones.
Drive to visit Geghard Monastery (UNESCO). The monastery comprises a number of churches and tombs, most of them cut into the living rock, illustrating Armenian medieval architecture at its highest point. The complex is set into a landscape of great natural beauty, surrounded by towering cliffs at the entrance to the Azat Valley.
Transfer to Yerevan for the overnight.
Day 4: Yerevan – Khor Virap – Noravank – Areni winery – Jermuk - Yerevan
After breakfast drive to visit Khor Virap – this fortified monastery is a place of pilgrimage and a holy site for all the Armenians and not only. The site dates back to a pagan temple that stood here for centuries before Christ’s birth. After the adoption of Christianity (301) this place was converted to a Christian holy pace and a chapel was built instead. The chapel was destroyed later and the site was used for construction of the existing Monastery. The monastery is located close to the border between Armenia and Turkey and is also the most beautiful view of Mount Ararat and entire Ararat Valley from here.
Drive to visit Noravank built in the 12th century, the monastery is best known for its two-storey Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) Church, which grants access to the second floor by way of a narrow stone-made staircase jutting out from the face of building. The monastery is also famous for its marvelous scenery of the red cliffs.
Visit Areni winery to try the best wines in the region. Drive back to Yerevan for the overnight.
In the afternoon, visit the serene Kadathanadan Kalari Centre to witness an exhilarating display of Kalaripayattu, the ancient martial art form of Kerala. Follow this with a leisurely walk through the picturesque tea and coffee estates. End your day with a cultural show featuring traditional Kerala dance forms at the Mudra Cultural Centre, before heading back to your hotel for a relaxing evening.
Day 5: Departure
After breakfast, transfer to the airport. Bon voyage!
